It has been a loud and confusing season in health and wellness care. Most of us are feeling it including those of us who have been in clinical practice for almost 20 years. From well known people in the space acting inappropriately, to clickbait promises, to copycats with no experience, and lots of AI generated advice. It has been a lot and it is stressful. So, this week I wanted to provide some suggestions to help you navigate the turbulance. If you have been doing all the things and “bio optimizing” all aspects of you life and are still feeling off this post is for you.
There has been conflicting headlines. Changing guidelines. Strong opinions everywhere you look.
It’s no wonder so many people feel overwhelmed, skeptical, or unsure who—or what—to trust anymore.
When certainty disappears, the feelings and thoughts are triggered and then the body feels it quietly at first then louder and louder hoping for your attention.
Before labs shift, before symptoms show up on paper, before disease develops, the nervous system responds. And right now, many nervous systems are running on high alert.
That’s not a personal failure.
It’s a biological response to too much all at once or prolonged uncertainty.
Which is why one of the most powerful (and often overlooked) steps toward optimal health today is nervous system balance.
Not as a trend.
Not as a buzzword.
But as true future-proofing for your health.
Your nervous system is your body’s command center. It decides—moment to moment—whether you are safe or under threat.
When the system perceives danger (even emotional or informational danger), it shifts into survival mode:
If this state is temporary, the body rebounds beautifully. This is what we call Hormesis.
If it becomes chronic—because stress, worry, and uncertainty never truly shut off—imbalance begins to feel normal.
This is why two people can eat the same food, take the same supplements, or follow the same protocol and get very different results.
The nervous system sets the tone.
Many people don’t identify as “stressed”—yet their bodies tell a different story.
You may notice:
These are not signs of weakness.
They are signals from a system that has been asked to carry too much for too long.
Balancing the nervous system is not about avoiding the future—it’s about meeting it with resilience.
Think of it as building internal reserves.
When your nervous system feels safe:
This is what future-proofing really means. What we all need right now: is to lower the volume and come back into our safe place.
This doesn’t require a retreat, expensive bio-hacking tools, or optimizing every area of your life.
Start small. Consistency matters more than intensity.
1. Create Predictable Rhythms
Regular meal times, sleep schedules, and gentle morning routines signal safety to the body.
2. Breathe on Purpose (2–5 minutes)
Slow nasal breathing with longer exhales activates the calming branch of the nervous system.
3. Reduce Input Before Bed
Less news. Less scrolling. More quiet. The nervous system cannot recover while it’s constantly processing information.
4. Support Blood Sugar
Skipping meals or under-eating is a hidden stressor. Eating and drinking too much is a stressor. Balanced whole food meals are nervous system medicine.
5. Gentle Movement
Walking, stretching, light strength work—movement that restores rather than depletes.
6. Choose One Grounding Ritual
For me it is my Yoga practice and morning sunlight. You could choose a short evening wind-down or time doing something creative. Small rituals build safety over time.
7. A Positive Belief / Saying / Gratitude Statement. Choose someting that helps you stay grounded and see the good. It will also help to support good behaviors and choices and reaffirm itself over and over.
While lifestyle and daily rhythms are foundational, certain supplements can gently support the nervous system—especially during prolonged periods of stress or uncertainty. The quality of the supplements matters.
This is not about “fixing” the body, but about providing the raw materials it needs to feel safe, resilient, and adaptable again.
Magnesium (Glycinate or Threonate)
Magnesium supports muscle relaxation, sleep quality, and nervous system signaling. It can be especially helpful for tension, sleep disruption, and feeling “wired but tired.”
B-Complex (or Targeted B Vitamins)
B vitamins are essential for neurotransmitter production and stress resilience. Chronic stress increases the body’s demand for B vitamins, particularly B6, B12, and folate. The right form matters, especially for those who feel sensitive or depleted.
Adaptogenic Support
Adaptogens help the body respond more appropriately to stress rather than pushing it in one direction. When chosen thoughtfully, they can support energy, mood, and cortisol balance without overstimulation. Not everyone needs them—and timing and type matter.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3s support brain health, inflammation balance, and nervous system communication.
Gut–Nervous System Support
Because the gut and nervous system are deeply connected, supporting digestion and gut integrity can have a calming effect on the entire system. For some, this includes targeted digestive support or nutrients that support the gut lining.
A gentle reminder:
More is not better. Supplements work best when personalized and layered on top of a supportive foundation. Start
In uncertain times, it’s tempting to look outward for certainty.
But healing often begins by restoring trust within the body itself. After 20 years in clinic I know that when given the right stuff the body and mind can heal.
When the nervous system feels supported, the body becomes clearer, stronger, and more responsive. Decisions feel less reactive. Symptoms become easier to interpret. Healing becomes possible again.
This is not about ignoring what’s happening in the world.
It’s about making sure your mind and body isn’t living as if danger is constant.
And that may be one of the most important health investments you can make right now. When the world and life is nosiy, get quiet and focus on the simple sustainable steps that help you build the resisilence you need for wellbeing.
