Most people wait until January to set new health goals, but the theory is that October may actually be the best time to start fresh. Think of the October Theory as a natural reset button—positioned between the busy summer months and the holiday rush. It’s the ideal season to reflect, realign, and take action for your wellbeing before the year ends.
Instead of pushing off changes until January, October invites you to begin now—so you can enter 2026 with energy, balance, and momentum.
1. Seasonal Transition
Fall encourages us to slow down and look inward. Just as nature shifts into harvest and renewal, October is a reminder to evaluate what’s been growing well in your life and what it may be time to release.
2. A Pause Before the Holidays
By November and December, schedules often become overloaded with holiday events and obligations. October provides a unique pocket of calm, giving you space to reset your priorities and create new routines. A chance to reset your priorities and lay a strong foundation before the whirlwind begins.
3. Working With Your Body’s Rhythm
Our health naturally mirrors the changing seasons. As days shorten and temperatures cool, our bodies crave grounding, nourishing practices. Starting a wellness reset now allows you to align with this natural rhythm, making new habits easier to maintain.
Before setting goals for 2026, pause and reflect. Ask yourself:
This isn’t about judgment—it’s about clarity. Awareness is the first step toward meaningful change.
Many of us see January as the official time to make resolutions. But starting your wellness plan in October gives you a head start. You’ll move into the holidays with greater energy and intention, rather than waiting until the New Year when stress and pressure are at their peak.
Like the trees shedding leaves, October encourages us to let go of habits and patterns that no longer serve us. This is the perfect time to nourish your body, reset your gut health, and set the stage for a vibrant 2026
1. Review Your Habits
Write two lists: one with habits you want to keep and expand, and another with habits you’d like to let go of. Small, consistent positive shifts create resilience and longevity.
2. Reconnect With Your Body
Holistic wellness starts from within. Take time to check in—through journaling, gentle movement, meditation, or even a mindful walk outdoors. Your body will often tell you what it needs when you listen.
3. Set Intentions, Not Resolutions
Instead of rigid resolutions, focus on how you want to feel in 2026—energized, grounded, joyful. Then create small, realistic intentions that move you in that direction.
October is more than just another month on the calendar—it’s a powerful opportunity to reset your health, restore your energy, and prepare for the year ahead.
By taking small, intentional steps this October, you’ll move into the holiday season with clarity, energy, and balance. That makes January less about “fixing” yourself and more about building on the strong foundation you’ve already created.
Personally, I’ve added more nature walks into my week. They calm my nervous system, boost my oxygen levels, and complement my yoga and strength practice. I’m also blocking my work schedule so I stay focused and don’t feel like I’m “always on.” I am also being kinder to myself and celebrating this amazing life I have lived had so far!
What about you? What small shifts can you make this month that will ripple into 2026 and that your future self will thank you for?
Here’s to a beautiful, healthy transition into the new year—starting right now.
