EMOTIONAL FLEXIBILITY IS KEY TO A HEALTHY GUT
“Success is not measured in your bank account,
it’s measured in your nervous system.”
This is a pretty powerful and triggering statement by a very successful biz influencer, Natalie Elis from Boss Babe “BB”.
I wanted to share some of her thoughts with you because most of the women that collaborate with me on their wellbeing are a little like her in one or more of these areas.
It also sounds a little like me except for the tech savvy part.. LOL!
Here’s the thing with that, it’s a yes AND situation. We have a big ask from ourselves and we often push the boundaries of our nervous system into too much stress driven by not enough in one or more areas of our life. Often it is the belief we are not enough or don’t have enough that drives us to do too much leading to an imbalance.
A regulated nervous system isn’t going to pay the rent and put food on the table…
And wild wealth isn’t going to fix a dysregulated nervous system.
They get to go hand in hand.
One of the first places you notice that you have pushed a little too hard is dysregulation of the GUT. You might also notice weight gain or weight loss and you might also notice that your skin looks dull and has a tendency to breakout more often.
When we are under stress real or perceived for too long our digestion shuts down and all the resources to break down and absorb food/nutrients also shuts down. Then the cascade begins and our soil, our terrain that allows us to do all the things becomes depleted due to a lack of nutrients.
It’s soft girl CEO era where you are doing biz on vacation or it’s hustle hard era where you never shut it down.
Black and white thinking is dysregulation in itself. It’s the belief that you can only have one or the other… and it puts you in a challenging situation where you feel forced to choose.
Do I want career success or do I want peace of mind?
Do I want to achieve my professional goals or do I want to be a great mother?
Do I want a big team or do I want to do everything myself?
I know this because I’ve sat on each side so many times.
“Success is measured in your peace of mind, and it’s measured in the quality of your relationships.
Success is measured in your health and vitality, your feeling of passion and purpose, and ultimately in your ability to have the choice.”
Ask yourself, what is the base level of “enough” for you. What does it look and feel like. Now when you decided to go “beyond enough” it gets to be from a place of choice, regulation, joy, expansion, passion, purpose, creativity, desire… and not from scarcity, fear, dysregulation
If you in fact are struggling with basic needs, then you can still choose to shift your mindset to one of gratitude for the things/relationships you do have and keep growing from a place of balance.
“I remember before I hit the “enough” point financially in my business, I was working all hours trying to make it work and feeling very much like my back was up against the wall (because it was).
Yet, when I went beyond enough, I subconsciously still continued to work that way.
The goals needed to get bigger and bigger, or it meant I wasn’t growing or worrying that I might lose what I had.
Deep down I still felt dysregulated and “not enough”. My Gut was telling me loud and clear that I had to take the time to change the way I viewed ENOUGH.
Today BB’s decisions are made from a more regulated, calm and joyful place and my overall health improved.
I know that this week’s post was a little more philosophical than usual, however this time off to refresh has got me thinking about how we can have more balance and do better in a fast and often fractured world.
More than 2,000 years ago, Hippocrates — the father of modern medicine — suggested that all disease begins in the gut.
Have a great week and I have a few spots available Sept 6th if you would like to book an in-person appointment.
